Enjoy our sunny basement apartment a few blocks from the Capitol. Our renovated English basement is spacious, bright and clean. It has a private entrance, queen bed, large couch, kitchen, washer, dryer, TV... It is ideal for a couple but can accommodate a third, ideally a child.

In light of the COVID -19, our cleaners are taking extra effort to disinfect surfaces, with particular attention to doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks, and countertops. Stay safe!

The space
We have a great location for tourists, business travelers and researchers near the Capitol, the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, free museums on the National Mall and the neighborhood’s ever-expanding restaurant choices. Our English basement is bright and has a private entrance through our shady flowered garden. This studio apartment comes with a private bathroom, complete kitchen, washer and dryer, and WiFi.
We are conveniently situated a 10-minute walk from three metro stops, including Union Station, where you also will find intercity trains and buses and rental cars. Museums and monuments are within 1 mile (East Wing of the National Gallery) and continue for 3 miles to the Lincoln Monument and beyond. Washington’s bike share system has rental stations two blocks away. This is a great neighborhood for active walkers!

We live in a family-friendly neighborhood of Victorian row houses in the shadow of the Capitol. We also are walking distance to two of the best restaurant districts in DC, Eastern Market/8th Street SE/Barracks Row and H Street and Union Market, NE. We are only a mile or so from Southwest Waterfront Park, Yards Park, and the Warf District - all on the Anacostia River and the boat channel. You can rent kayaks, hear free music, or see free outdoor movies in nice weather, take in a baseball game at Nationals Park, a soccer game at DC United's Audi Fielf, a concert at the Anthem concert hall, or go ice skating (winter only) all within a 2 mile radius. There are too many options for great places to eat - we can't keep up! Best of all, this is a family friendly neighborhood - ideal for long walks and short bike rides. Most monuments and museums are just a couple of miles from our home and restaurants are a short walk or even shorter cab ride.
You’ll find neighborhood parks just minutes away in any direction. Keep in mind, this is city living so there is street noise, homelessness and bustle. Please remember, the city is divided into quadrants - the same address in a different quadrant can be far away and very different!

At any time, feel free to knock on the door or give us a call if you need anything at all. We’ll talk to you about the neighborhood, provide advice, or leave you alone, if you prefer. Plus, we work within walking distance of our home so if you have any questions during the day, just call us.
We are in town for the vast majority of our guests, but if we are going to be away during your visit, we have neighbors and friends who host on Airbnb who will be available.
