Downtown completely renovated 2nd story Historic Brick Condo 3 blocks from PATH subway access (2 stops World Trade and West Village), guaranteed parking 1 block away, 15 min drive to NYC. Perfect for business travelers or visiting couples w/ convenient NYC access, high speed internet access and 32" monitor, printer. You'll love the Jules Verne themed dining area and lavish amenities.
The space
We purchased and renovated the place, gutting the plaster interior and exposing the original 1852 brick to build our fantasy condo. The condo is on the second floor (1 flight of steps) of an apartment building across from City Hall and 3 blocks from downtown Jersey City with upscale restaurants, entertainment and shopping.
The first thing you see opening the door to the condo is the brick wall illuminated by a dozen halogen spots giving the interior a warm cozy feeling. The dining area we call the “Nautilus corner” was themed from the Jules Verne story and includes a riveted “submarine” door, a heavy oak on girders dining table, a hanging Edison-bulb chandelier, and overlooks a huge 36 inch porthole illuminated with a view of the ocean depths right out of the novel. The effect is the control room of the Nautilus.
The kitchen area too is a bit fantastic with the centerpiece being a copper-infused stove and hood. This is a Blue-Star commercial gas range with and a convection oven and center grill. To complement the stove we installed an oversized copper farmhouse sink and waterspout style faucet.
Overlooking the kitchen is a 100 inch custom window flooding the condo with sunlight, as well as granting a private view to our treed yard.
The living room area has a new sofa with a pull out GEL-mattress bed and an amazing 55” OLED TV with a blu-ray player and HBO.
I am an aviation buff, so we had the work desk modeled as an airplane wing which I then painted and decaled in the spirit of army aircraft. The top of the desk wing is covered in glass to shield you from the rivets. On the desk is a huge 32 inch monitor for use with our DELL Windows 10 PC (we wipe the drive clean for every guest), or you can plug in your laptop/tablet with its HDMI, DVI, VGA, or Display Port output. We provide both wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) internet and even an illuminated keyboard.
The bathroom is done in Italian tile with mosaic trim, a walk in shower and a heated floor with its own thermostat. A delight for the toes on cold mornings!
During the renovation we discovered an original 200 year old fireplace, so we installed a gas fireplace with a remote. Not far from the bed it is a lovely way to fall into dreamland.
The bedroom has a queen sized Murphy bed with a Casper mattress. Central Air and central heat can be controlled with a simple temperature selecting remote. You'll enjoy the smell of the Cedar Closet.
Parking
During the weekend you can park for free in the city hall municipal lot at the end of the block. Midweek if you can’t find parking on the street there’s a huge lot, Edison Parking, 1 ½ blocks away for about $19/day. NYC is about 15 minutes away via the Holland Tunnel.
