this castle was built over 100 years ago (1916) by George Knapp, the founder of Union Carbibe (a subsidiary of Dow Chemical). In 1940, Frances Holden bought it and allowed her friend to move in with her. The castle was destroyed 5 weeks later by a forest fire. Today, it still remains private property but it is open to the public. it is a great place to view Santa Ynez River Canyon, Lake Cachuma, and San Rafael Mountains.

Camino Cielo follows a ridge top path through the Santa Ynez Mountains, the closest range to the Pacific Ocean. The trail is initially a single-lane, paved road as it heads west from California 154 through a small group of houses to travel into Los Padres National Forest. Once past the popular Winchester Canyon Gun Club, which is open to the public when its gate is open, the road turns to uneven, roughly graded dirt. There are good views of Lake Cachuma to the north, with the San Rafael Wilderness behind. It winds down toward the head of Ellwood Canyon, gradually descending some switchbacks, before running around the head of the canyo
