Traveler advice

Getting around

Tram or Bybahnen

The cheapest way to get to the city from the airport is the tram (Bybahnen). Takes about 40 mins. end to end. Tickets are purchased on the app or on the machines in the stop. Note : Tickets are not printed and your credit card is your ticket i.e. in case of inspection just present the card with which you paid, they can verify it. Fines are prompt and steep, so dont forget to buy your ticket !
Customs and culture

Tipping culture

Restaurant workers etc. in Norway are generally paid a decent living wage (and therefore the prices are quite high). So it is not necessary nor expected to offer a tip. Tips are also taxed as normal income. Ofcourse a tip is always appreciated, but dont feel obliged to give one.
What to pack

Rain jackets / shoes

Bergen is generally a wet city and might rain often. Good idea to pack a light rain jacket and some shoes that can withstand getting wet. I have some umbrellas that you may borrow.
Traveling with kids

Kids are free here

Kids here are allowed to get dirty and generally be free. It is frowned upon to yell at or unnecessarily restrict your kids. Any physical force like spanking will land you in serious trouble. So be mindful.
Traveling with kids

Public transport

Kids under 16 do not pay in public transport if travelling with an adult with a valid ticket.
