You need reservations to park here, and they book up fast. But the locals just hike in to find themselves alone with the giant redwoods.

You can walk for miles along this spectacular beach. Park on the road past the main lot (look for the turnoff just past the kayak shop). All the little streets--even those that forbid parking-- have public paths through the dunes to the beach and it's less crowded there. We like to head over in the late afternoon and walk on the beach before dinner at the Parkside Cafe.

The parking lot here makes this little beach popular with families and dogs. You can also hike over from Tennessee Valley road, or from the top of the hill at the Miwok trailhead. A beautiful spot and just a quick drive over the hill from us (10 minutes) when we don't feel like going all the way to Stinson.
