The Gatineau Park is a national park. It offers lakes for swimming, trails for walking, hiking, skiing, mountain biking.
The Parkways within the park are turned over to cyclists on Sundays, just don't tell them it isn't theirs the rest of the time. Serious triathletes train here (swimming in Meech Lake), as do leasure cyclists wanting a hilly challenge. Runners train with a whistle to ward off the occasionnal bear and cub or insistant Canada geese.
The old Carbide Mill ruinsat Meech Lake are as close as you can get to a nude beach in Ottawa...

What does a Prime Minister of Canada do with his cottage retreat ? He keeps buying land around it, builds folies using parts of grand buildings being demolished in Ottawa, and then gifts it to the people of Canada.
