Sir Andrew was an illustrious Canadian scholar born in this house in 1864. He qualified as a teacher, then as a medical doctor. He was an editor, a writer, a WW1 veteran, and a professor of Medical History at McGill University in Montreal. He was knighted in 1918.
The Homestead is open to the public July 1st – Sept 30th and by chance or appointment in the shoulder season.
We offer tours daily from 9:30-4:00. A tour guide will tell stories about the Macphail family who owned the house for almost 100 years. The most famous of the 10 children was Andrew Macphail who was knighted by the King of England for his great contribution to Canada and the Commonwealth.

Harvey Moore (1916-1960) was an avid outdoorsman and naturalist. In 1944, he purchased property from Harriet Molyneaux and began to establish a bird sanctuary for migratory waterfowl. His vision for the 120 acre property was to create a safe staging area for migrating waterfowl that travelled along the Atlantic Flyway, but also to provide safe habitat for resident wildlife.

The BoughtonRiver Nature Trail is located in Kings County on Highway 4 at Bridgetown. It begins at a roadside parking lot near the fire hall. The trail is built in four interconnected loops, plus a short spur to a lookout, to view the typical “drowned estuary” of the Boughton River. From here you may also see kayakers and canoeist coming upriver on a paddling trail. The total hiking length available is 8.9 km, but with the loop system there are opportunities to do an early return and an easier, shorter hike.
