The Poinsett Bridge is the oldest bridge in South Carolina, and possibly the southeastern US. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1820, it was named after Joel R. Poinsett (former US ambassador to Mexico). It is the centerpiece for one of our Heritage Preserves in the area, with 120 acres and a hiking/nature trail to explore. Historians believe that it was designed by Robert Mills (architect for the Washington Monument). Great for hiking/walking and especially for photos!
