Beautiful little local town, known as " the Venice of the Perigord" due to the river and canals that surround the old medieval town. Visit early on Fridays in order to get parked and visit the market. Take towels if you fancy a swim as there is a small riverside beach next to the main carpark. Lots of shops, restaurants and bars.

Beautiful and historic chateau and surrounding town. Lovely gardens surround the chateau and the ladies' loo has the best view of any I've ever been in! Take a picnic or eat at one of the restaurants in the town below the chateau, there are several to choose from - ice creams only in the chateau.

Ancient French city with superb maze of medieval streets at its centre, all adjacent to its romanesque cathedral. Good range of shops, bars and restaurants with many of them centred around beautiful paved squares. Indoor and outdoor market every Saturday and lots of special events on throughout the year. A good place to try out locally made food and wine.

Superb gardens, famous for its topiary and perched high above the Dordogne river. Fine walks around the gardens (including the 1km "ride") so plan to stay for the day. Take a picnic and eat in the picnic field next to the carpark with stunning views across to several other chateaux (just ask the staff at the entrance if you wish to go out and come back in again - they are very obliging). In the summer they do candlelit evenings.
