It will take you a while to reach the Sun Tunnels, but it will be worth it. Situated in Utah's West desert, North of Wendover, this art installation is breathtaking. If you're lucky enough to catch it on the Summer or Winter Solstice, you'll see the sun rise in the center of the tunnels.

You can't come to Wendover and not see the Bonneville Salt Flats! Depending on the time of year, you may be able to drive on the salt, or it may be covered in water. Either way, it is expansive and breathtaking. One of the only places large and flat enough that you can see the curvature of the earth.

Wendover was the site of heavy bomber training during WWII. This included the 509th Composit Group, which would eventually drop the bomb on Hiroshima. The base has a museum, gift shop, and several restored buildings. You can also see the "Jailbird", the plane from Con Air, which was filmed at the Wendover Airbase.

Wendover is one town that stretches between Nevada and Utah. If your smart phone is set to automatically update time zones, it will constantly switch every time you cross the border. Both cities stay on Mountain Time to ease confusion.
