Named for the silver screen, Silver Strand Beach is the southernmost beach in Oxnard, hugged by a colorful neighborhood of stunning homes.
Silver Strand Beach is a local favorite in Oxnard. With only one entrance/exit to the Silver Strand neighborhood down Victoria Avenue, the mile-long beach is relatively isolated – bordered by Port Hueneme Naval Base to the south and the inlet to Channel Islands Harbor to the north. Since it’s a bit of a trek (7 miles) from Highway 101, the beach remains fairly uncrowded most of the year.

Surfing Silver Strand Beach
Silver Strand Beach is the destination of choice for local surfers, boogie boarders, and body surfers. This Beach Break has three peaks: the Jetty, which is a fabulous break for longboarders and intermediate surfers. It’s a lovely right-hand break. The Bowl, which fires perfectly in the Fall and Winter, and La Janelle, a sandbar left-hand break that will get all of you goofy footers frothing at the mouth. Whichever break you choose, be sure to practice good surf etiquette.
Silver Strand Murals and La Jenelle Park
Head toward the beach’s southern point, where you’ll find eye-catching murals adorning the walls of Port Hueneme Naval Base, painted by local artists including Evan Mendel, Jess Mavros, Gina Lu Sloatman, and more. Follow the murals to the point, climb atop the jetty, and find yourself standing over the steel remains of luxury ocean liner La Jenelle, shipwrecked in April 1970.
Kayaking
Kayaking Silver Strand Beach is one of the most popular watersports at this favorite local beach due to it’s close proximity to the Channel Islands Harbor. Here you can paddle along the beach south towards the La Janelle Jetty, or paddle in and around the Channel Islands Harbor. Here you will experience Dolphins, Sea Lions, Harbor Seals, and other marine life.
Fishing
Silver Strand Beach is a great spot to catch surf perch, calico bass, corbina, halibut, and other species of fish. Surf the shore with Sand Crabs or plastic grubs to catch surf perch and corbina. Try the Jetty to catch halibut, Calico Bass, and other fish. The best time of year to surf fish is during the spring and summer. Silver Strand Beach is also an excellent place to dig up Pismo Clams. You can pick up a fishing license and tackle at Channel Islands SportFishing Center which is about a mile from Silver Strand Beach.
Amenities
Public Restrooms are at the north of the beach. Parking is free from sunrise to sunset. A parking lot is available adjacent to San Nicholas Road. Additional street parking is available. Lifeguards are on duty between Memorial Day and Labor Day only.
