City/town information

Because of its strategic location at the confluence of the Allegheny River and French Creek, the City of Franklin was home to four frontier forts during the Colonial Era. The City’s subsequent history during the early Oil Boom endures in its well-preserved downtown and Victorian neighborhoods. The City’s main street, Liberty Street, was named as one of the ten Great Streets of America for 2010 by the American Planning Association, and in 2017, its two downtown parks, Fountain Park and Bandstand Park, were selected as Great Places in PA by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association. In 2018, the City’s bronze status as a Bicycle Friendly Community was renewed by the by the League of American Bicyclists, making Franklin one of only six Bicycle Friendly communities in Pennsylvania. With its stand-out festivals, bike trail network, outdoor beauty, local dining, lodging and shopping -- and an abundance of community spirit -- Franklin rolls out the welcome mat year-round.
