Traveler advice
What to pack
Water OK for bathing, showers, but not to drink or for ice
The water system in Surfside Beach looks a little bit yellow (so, yes the toilet was flushed). I recommend bringing bottled water and ice (or making ice from bottled water). There is also a water cooler in the home that can be filled for free at the Surfside Beach City Hall (pro tip - don't fill up the jug all the way).
What to pack
Sunblock during the day, mosquito repellent in the evening
Sunblock, a sun hat, sunglasses, swim shirt, shade, etc. are very important for your stay at the beach. Please do not get sunburned on your first day!
When the sun goes down, the mosquitoes come out. So, plan ahead and bring mosquito repellent with you.
Getting around
Free Auto-Ferry to Port Bolivar & Explore
If you are looking to mix it up for a day trip and try another beach, drive north through Galveston, take the free auto-ferry to Port Bolivar, and explore some of the amazing area beaches such as Crystal Beach and the Bolivar Peninsula.
Traveling with kids
CAUTION!
There are often snakes in the sand dunes on either side of the walkway to the beach. Please make sure children are never left unsupervised and do not explore the sand dunes. Also, keep an eye out for sea turtles and do not disturb them. Yes, we have dolphins swimming along Surfside Beach! Watch for them.
