Cayuga Lake is the largest of the Finger Lakes, and for a not to far away excursion from Skaneateles, a must visit for “winos” like us! So many good vineyards and wineries, great views, some with food, some without. Plan a solid day around this. Eat a hearty breakfast, hit the road by 11:30am/12 noon. A wonderful drive, and great wine experiences.

There are over 30 wineries that make up the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and it's home to more wineries than any other lake in the region. Some of the best IMHO.
The Seneca Lake Wine Trail goes all the way down the west side of Seneca Lake and then back up the east side of Seneca Lake.

Classy atmosphere. Get a window table for some lake and tourist
watching. Fine cuisine. Also, Tavern Restaurant, more classy casual.

I list it twice. If you love Monet and fine dining ... you’ve got to go. It’s a
Michelin-restaurant that overlooks a Monet inspired lilly pond. We love the
setting, wine selection and other chef’s fancies. You can dine in your robes between spa services. (They have a nice massage and lunch special). Do yourself a favor and book a spa session! If you just have time for lunch, get a table outside at the
Lilly Pond. It was designed after the Monet painting itself, you’ll recognize it. #Foodies

Great and reasonable for familes/kids.
Wonderful Angus burgers. You can also get some “California-style” exotic dishes.
Buffalo burgers, too... if that’s your thing.

Spa
Mirbeau Spa – recently listed as one of the 1000 Places You Need to See Before You Die. It’s a little pricey, but if you have an artistic bone in your body it will be worth every penny. The relaxing pools, hot tubs and spa are world class. The couples massage and lunch special is ideal. Get there plenty early to enjoy their amenities.

Sightseeing
What a treasure and little known fact. We stumbled upon this, and absolutely well worth the trip. About 20 minutes from the house; the visitors center itself is well done with timelines, photos, etc. Tour starts with a ranger delivering a dramatic talk about this incredible woman’s life, followed by a tour of her home/property. So much more to her than the Underground Railroad (prolific suffrage movement leader). What a gem, and worth the visit!

located in Ulysses, NY (about 30 min away). Google it for directions. It’s a gentler gorge if your group involves seniors or little ones. The most daring of the gorges we recommend are: Carpenter’s Falls, Buttermilk Falls,
Letchworth State Park and Taughannock Falls.
