It is a good idea to relax in Skallagrímsgarður after a visit to Borgarnes swimming pool which is next to the park. The park plays an important role in Egil's Saga, the Icelandic Saga that takes place here.

The mountain Hafnarfjall near Borgarnes is part of the same extinguished central volcano as Skardsheidi and is also about 4 million years old. It is possible to hike up the mountain beginning near the bridge over the fjord at Borgarnes. The mountain is 844 m in height and its sides are rather eroded. A great hike where you can enjoy the view over the fjord and the town.

Spa
Immerse yourself in Icelandic nature at the Krauma geothermal bath resort which is a 35 minutes drive from Borgarnes. Relax in hot tubs heated with water from Europe’s most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver, and unwind surrounded by western Iceland’s stunning landscapes.
They have an excellent kitchen as well, our favorite meal is the Krauma burger a hamburger from Mýranaut with red onion jam, portobello mushroom, parma ham, havarti cheese, ruccola, small potatoes and aioli.

There are two entertaining and educational exhibitions at the Settlement Center. While one tells the story of the first settlers, the other reveals the story of Iceland’s most important saga – Egils Saga. Egill Skalla-Grimson was a famous Viking and poet, and his saga is closely linked to the settlement period, as his father was one of the first settlers.
The exhibitions recreate the fascinating drama of the sagas and the birth of this island nation.
