Sightseeing
These are some of our favorite places to go and sight see!
We love Folly Beach! It’s a fun, relaxed, down to earth beach. You can park at the Folly Beach County Park for easy access to bathrooms and showers. We like to park all the way at the end of the county park. If you walk to the right side (until you can’t go any farther) you can usually see dolphins in the morning.
The Folly Beach pier is currently under construction. Parking in that area may be limited and more expensive.
Be sure to check out Morris Island Light House at the opposite end of the beach. You can park along the street and it is about a 1/4 mile walk (on pavement for most, and then up a semi-steep sandy path). When you follow the sandy path, you’ll be able to see the light house from the shore. This part of the beach is a lot more “untouched” with lots of driftwood and cool places to relax.
If you keep walking all the way to your left until you can’t go any farther, you can usually spot dolphins, especially in the morning.

Beautiful beach to visit!
Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve is on Edisto Island. The 4,600-acre preserve includes almost three miles of undeveloped, breathtaking beachfront that you'll never forget.
This wildlife management area exhibits many characteristics common to sea islands along the southeast coast: pine hardwood forests, agricultural fields, coastal wetlands and a barrier island with a beachfront. Botany Bay is left undisturbed, providing coastal habitat for a wide range of wildlife species, including loggerhead sea turtles, the state-threatened least tern and neo-tropical songbirds like the painted bunting and summer tanager.
Botany Bay is very accessible; you can tour most of the property in half a day or less. Simply pick up a free self-guided 6.5 mile driving tour.
Erosion on Botany Bay Beach has left a "boneyard" of dead trees along the sand, creating a unique coastline you've got to walk to fully appreciate. Shell collection is prohibited; as a result the beach is full of whelks, scallops, clams, mussels, oysters, sea stars and sand dollars. The best time to visit the beach is at low tide when a wider section of the shoreline is exposed.
Botany Bay is free and open to the public except on Tuesdays and during scheduled hunts. A full calendar of events and closures at Botany Bay is available on the SC DNR website. Be sure to bring food, snacks and water as it’s a pretty remote location!
