Fun-filled city with beautiful river views and stately Georgian buildings. The Sage Gateshead is a fantastic music venue with the renovated Baltic flour mill a hot destination for world-class exhibitions and performances.

A beautiful historic town with cobbled streets, a majestic cathedral, stately university buildings and a castle. The riverside walk and riverboat cruise offer a different view of this picturesque city.

It's a chance to walk through the Georgian Estate to the 'Column to Liberty' which can be seen from Lockhaugh Farm. And while it doesn't have the great buildings and gardens of many National Trust estates it has fantastic walks and offers an event programme for all the family as well as a little cafe with great scones and cakes.

A great fishing, walking, cycling and sailing spot with expansive views that offers a great day out for all the family. From Lockhaugh Farm you journey through beautiful countryside, villages and moorland. The walk alongside the reservoir over the dam wall offers amazing views and a stop at the Boat Shack cafe for refreshments offers a relaxing break. Though a picnic and a paddle is also fun!

Love the vibe in this little spot of shipping containers on the Gateshead Quays. The beer is good, the roast dinners delicious and the atmosphere just right.

A 20 minute walk from Lockhaugh Farm along the old Derwent Railway Line, through the woods next to the river you reach this Cafe where you can rest for a cuppa, a good breakfast or a spot of cake.

Traveler advice
Don't miss
Newcastle is an easy walking city that has a train network.
The metro trains travel from the city centre to the north and south coast (Whitley Bay & Tynemouth and South Shields & Sunderland). My favourite local beach is Tynemouth and King Edwards Bay is my favourite swimming spot.
