Sandy beaches
The biggest sandy beach in Malta. Here you can rent deckchairs and umbrellas on the beach and there are a number of restaurants from where you can dine very close to the beach. I suggest to dine at Blue Beach Club and I hope you will love this place as much as we do. 😉

Sightseeing
If you are in the north (maybe on your way to Gozo) a short stop here would be worthwhile. Ticket costs only €2 and the view from the roof alone is worth more than that. You can then understand a bit more how the Knights used to protect the island hundreds of years ago.

Traveler advice
Don't miss
Ferry or small boat to Valletta
Getting the ferry to go to Valletta from the apartment is quick and very convenient. But even if you have your rented car get on a ferry (or even better a small private boat) and cross the Grand Harbor. I am sure you won’t regret this short trip!
Customs and culture
Loud but friendly locals
Yes we Maltese are loud and Cospicua is luckily still very Maltese unlike many other towns. Whilst you may think that people are fighting 90% of the time they are just chatting in the Maltese way ! 😀
Ways to save
Street Markets
Every Tuesday there is a street market very close to Citta Cospicua Suites (next to the bus stop). You can find fresh vegetables, cheap clothes and practically everything. Might be worth to have a look even just to see the locals. At Marsaxlokk Sunday market besides fish you can find also some nice souvenirs to take home.
Don't miss
Eating rabbit
This is the national dish so you should find a local restaurant and you will not be disappointed. In the village of Mgarr Malta there is a good number of local restaurants but you can find a restaurant or two in other villages too.
Don't miss
Eating a ftira
This is the a typical Maltese bread and has canned tuna, tomatoes, basil, onions, capers, etc. It is simply delicious, especially if eaten by the beach after a nice swim.
If you have a car, try one from Andrew's Snack Bar in Birkirkara. This is a local place and is open only for lunch (till 2pm) but their ftira is one of the best on the island.
Don't miss
Maltese festa
If you are here in summer you cannot miss a village festa. The fireworks, street decorations, and processions with the saint are all part of this. If you get to know locals you might also end up drunk! 😀

Weekly Bus ticket
This costs only €21 for unlimited travel. 😉
Customs and culture
Say hello to locals
Generally Maltese are very friendly. A simple hello can be reciprocated with a nice smile. Don’t shy away to ask locals for help or to just have a chat.

Mini markets nearby
Poy Poy mini market is just 50 meters away from the apartment on Triq Matty Grima. It is a very local place but you can buy water and your daily necessities. Opens every morning till 12 and then again in the afternoon but it is closed on Sundays.
Another option is Convenience Store close to the American University of Malta. It is open all day till 9pm.
Don't miss
Galletti with gbejniet (Maltese cheese)
Many Maltese could live on galletti. That’s me 🤷♂️! Try these simple crackers with cheese, dips (bigilla, arjoli 😉), or salamis. Add some wine (or beer) and you might qualify for Maltese nationality 😀.
