The original local vegetarian place (with its classic cookbooks). Good, but hasn't changed that much with the times and while the food is good, it isn't special and can be a little disappointing compared to more contemporary "foodie" spots.

Gorges and Waterfalls
The most incredible gorges in the area. Truly spectacular. for the best waterfall (Lucifer Falls) and gorge views, start at the Upper Entrance and walk down. You can go all the way to the swimming hole with a diving board and life guard at the bottom. But that is a pretty long walk for small kids, so if you mostly want to swim, use the Lower Entrance. Both ends are amazing!

Best swimming! Tallest falls. Use either the South or North Lakeside entrances to swim. South entrance has a kids' playground and a lifeguard. Kayak and stand-up paddle rentals. The North entrance is quieter. The falls-side entrance has parking by the trailhead to the stunningly high Taughannock Falls. Flat trail, easily accessible and walkable. No climbing necessary.

Fishing at Nearby Ballard Pond.
Forest Service says: "Ballard, Foster, and Potomac Ponds are stocked annually with rainbow and brook trout in cooperation with NYSDEC. Approximately 300 brook trout and 400 rainbow trout are stocked in each pond in early May. These trout range in size from 8 - 10 inches and provide great angling opportunities to forest visitors through May and into June. By this time, most trout have been caught and water temperatures in the ponds become very warm and unfavorable for trout to survive."

Trout Fishing at Catharine Creek in Watkins Glen
DEC says: "Catharine Creek originates in northern Chemung County and flows in a northerly direction until it empties into Seneca Lake at Watkins Glen. Catha- rine Creek is best known for its annual migration of wild rainbow trout in the Spring. Thousands of anglers each year descend on Catharine Creek to try and catch beautiful lake run rainbow trout. Finger Lakes tributary regulations apply. Please consult the New York Freshwater Fishing Official Regulations Guide."

Fishing in Ithaca - Fall Creek
DEC says: "Brown trout, brook trout, and smallmouth bass are the main game fish above Ithaca Falls. Below Ithaca Falls, the fishery is a Finger Lakes tributary fishery where lake run rainbow trout, brown trout, Atlantic salmon, and smallmouth bass are the main species.
Below Ithaca Falls, the lake run trout and salmon fishery is generally a spring and fall event. Rainbow trout are the main salmonid in the creek in the spring, although some Atlantic salmon and brown trout are taken in the spring as well though. Rainbows enter the stream on their spring spawning run."
