Getsemaní is an area that borders the walled city: you pass the Clock Tower, cross the Parque del Centenario and you are already in Getsemaní. It is a neighborhood with a strong history that has always been linked to alternative, protest and revolution movements. In the colonial times, this neighborhood used to be where many of the slaves forcibly transported from the African continent (mainly from West Africa) to the port of Cartagena lived. The location of the neighborhood outside the walled city and certainly other reasons (the experts will enlighten us on the subject) will allow a part of the black population of the neighborhood to emancipate themselves from slavery.
