Athlone is known for Seans Bar. Worth a visit but can get very busy. My favourite time is early evening when its nice and quiet. A nice mix of locals and tourists.

Birr Castle Demesne is set in 120 acres of beautiful parklands in the centre of Birr Town. Located about 45km from Athlone the town and castle is a lovely day out for the family. Its got a collection of over 5000 specimens of plants and trees. There's also a lovely play area for the kids.
