~Walk among giants.
Just inside the south entrance is the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees, Giant Sequoias as much as 300 feet tall and two centuries old line the hiking trails.
~See pioneers.
Another 4 miles up the road from the Mariposa Grove is Wawona, the Pioneer Yosemite History Center is a collection of mostly 19th century buildings relocated to this quiet corner of the park; in summer rangers offer living history programs here.
~Relaxed dining.
Where the Ahwahnee is grand, the park’s other notable historic hotel, the Wawona, is simply charming. A summer dinner on its broad porch or a Saturday bbq on its lawn are two of the nicest things you can do in the park.
~Gaze out from Glacier Point.
Take the Wawona Road and turn east on Glacier Point Road. Follow it to its end for one of the best views anywhere:
~Yosemite Valley, Half Dome and the Sierra Nevada.
If you feel like hiking, you have good options: nearby, the trail to Sentinel Dome & Taft Point gives amazing views, too.
~Tunnel View Overlook.
This classic view of Yosemite Valley is best seen toward late afternoon, when the sun makes the valley and the Sierra glow even more strikingly than usual. You’ll find the overlook on the Wawona Road, just below the tunnel exit driving north.
~Hike to Mirror Lake.
Beat the crowds and watch the sun rise on an early morning hike to this lovely lake near the east end of Yosemite Valley.
~Hike to Yosemite Falls.
Catch one of the valley shuttle buses to the trailhead for Lower Yosemite Falls, at its best in spring and early summer.
~Raft the Merced.
Wild in spring, in summer the Merced River is enjoyably tame as it flows through the valley. Easiest way is to rent a raft (and required personal flotation devices) at Curry Village Recreation Center; rental includes a shuttle trip from take-out point back to your start. (209) 372- 4386.

Traveler advice
Getting around
Always be prepared for winter driving in the mountains!
You must carry snow chains when there is snow on the road up here in the mountains. If you are staying in one of our homes in Sugarpine, Fishcamp or Wawona you MUST have an all wheel drive vehicle or a 4x4 (chains in car required)! You won't be able to navigate some of the side roads or driveways leading up to the property with just a 2 wheel or front wheel drive vehicle.
Visit this site for current road conditions & restrictions into Yosemite.

SNOWPLOW Schedule
Be advised-Snowplowing is not on a schedule. It's very likely that you could be snowed in or snowed out during a winter storm and may have to shovel your way out or plan on a day in. Yes this will change your itinerary. We can not control the weather or the hour that the plows get to us. We do apologize...
Getting around
Public Transportation
The free Yosemite Valley shuttle system provides convenient access around eastern Yosemite Valley, including stops at or near all overnight accommodations, stores, and major vistas.
