Biking to Trestles Surf Spots
Make your way from our house up towards the freeway. At the large, Spanish building take a right Avenida Del Presidente which parallels the freeway. Travel along this road for 1.5 miles until the road bends to the left and crosses over the freeway. Just before you cross over the freeway you will see a path that leads off to the right. Ride down this path and explore from here. You can reach all the surf spots and beaches via bike. There are monument signs that show the park network and surf spots.
Don't miss
San Onofre Bluff Trails 1-6
This is a day use area that begins about a mile South of San Onofre State Beach. If you enter San Onofre Trail 6 into Google Maps it will direct you to the area. This is a great bike ride from the house or take the car. Bikes enter free while cars have a day use fee. This campground and trail network runs for miles along the bluffs looking over the ocean. There are 6 marked Beach trails that lead you down to the beach and surf. This is a great place to take the dogs for off leash beach running. Trail 1 has the best surf and is a favorite longboard spot for afternoon to sunset.
Don't miss
Montalvo and Riviera ("Rivi") Beaches
Great locals beaches near the house. Head down to the beach and walk North along the beach trail. Before you cross the first bridge along the trail, take the stairs down to the right and under the bridge to the beach. There's also a shortcut! Walk down the street and about halfway to the park to the right and you will find stairs that lead up to a trail. This will cut you through to Avenida Montalvo. Walk down Montalvo to the cul de sac and locate the condo complex of 266-269 Avenida Montalvo. Walk through the black gate and follow the white lines to the stairs down to beaches.

Hiking and Mountain bike trails Near the House
Enter San Mateo Campground into Google Maps. This gets you to the right area. Ride your bikes or take a car. Once you see the campground continue past it on Christianitos. Looking to the left you will see some small and somewhat hidden tourn outs. There are 2 or 3 of them before you get to the Marine base gate. Pull in and park where you can (never been ticketed), enter through the gates to access all the trails. We like the last one before you get to the Marine base.
