Parks & Nature
It's the Reykjavík Pond. Really the heart of the city. Here east of the pond are still the oldest high schools in Iceland (e.g. Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, see below), where most of our leaders, poets and scientists graduated from, many of them continuing their studies abroad, the Europe and in the States. I the wintertime it is quite wonderful to skate on the pond.

From Perlan you get a great panoramic view of the city. You'll realize Reykjavík is much more than 101 (the centre for the artists and free-thinkers. It also boasts a café, but I'm not sure of the quality if it..

Grótta, the black beach connecting with the lighthouse is a popular place for late night walking and talking, especially during summer, walking in the black beach, taking in the mist and smell of the see, and take in the breathtaking view of the mountains on the other side of the sea.

Arts & Culture
The National Gallery is just a 300-400m away. A visit there is a good way to start the day - or to keep as a b-plan for a rainy day. The museum takes just a few hours to take the round, so it's definitely not overwhelming. The Museum provides a good overview of our making as a nation, from the Viking settlers to modern Icelanders.

This rather new museum was built around a recently discovered remains of a viking era / settlers era house, which was probably the first house ever built in Reykjavík.

This is the oldest theatre in Iceland, only playing Icelandic pieces or at least translated to Icelandic, but it might be fun to watch, see something different?
