While it's not necessarily a pleasant supermarket shopping experience, Auchan has everything that you might be looking for and it's only a minute from Cité Industrielle. Now open on Sunday afternoons - rare for a French grocery store!

The wait for this historic working-class brasserie is well worth it - particularly because it's so inexpensive! Bouillon Chartier does not take reservations but you'll want to reserve a night for a table in this beautiful large dining hall. Note the little drawers that were once filled with the cloth napkins for local workers - Le Bouillon Chartier still offers a decent, typical French meal, served fairly quickly, in order to get back to business. This won't be your favorite meal in Paris but it will definitely be a memorable experience! This location is the oldest - operating since 1896 - but there are also now Bouillons in Pigalle and République, and fancier establishments in the 6th and 10th arrondissements.

A quality bistrot in a beautiful art nouveau setting, on the corner of ave Ledru Rollin and rue de Charonne (a 12-minute walk from Cité Industrielle). You’ll choose from old favorites such as French onion soup, roasted beef bone marrow, duck confit and entrecôte as well as fish and seasonal daily specials. Prices are affordable and service is friendly. Be sure to reserve a table on the rez-de-chaussée (ground floor) to admire the decorative dining and bar area. And don’t miss the homemade Profiteroles for dessert!

This neighborhood bistrot is a local favorite. It’s on the pricier side (mains are around 25€), with good reason: the cuisine is homemade with the finest quality ingredients, which is evident upon tasting! Their extensive wine list is all natural, and their 70s-feel interior might take you back in time. If you’re a fan of classic French cuisine such as veal liver or Andouillette, this will be a memorable meal for you. But while relatively meat-centric, la Renaissance also serves delicious salads, cheese plates, and fresh fish and shellfish dishes. Located just across the Place Léon Blum, facing the Monoprix and merry-go-round.

This « corner café » couldn’t be more appropriately named. On the corner of rue Camille Desmoulins and rue Pétion, it is the closest watering hole from the flat. The kitchen serves a delicious and attractive lunch menu during the week, while in the evening they offer small sharing plates like pizzettes (tiny pizzas), cheese, and charcuterie. Come to this hip spot to taste new French cuisine during the day or to wine down with a local beer or glass of wine in the evening.

All items on the menu here are “fait maison”, or home-made, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the price! Affordable and casual, the café des Anges has a mostly anglophone staff and something for everyone on the menu. The dining area can get loud and cramped at peak dining times, but there’s always a free table somewhere. Their charming sister restaurant, the café Cosmos, is smaller and therefore quieter – and located just a few numbers up on rue de la Roquette. Less than a 10-minute walk from the Place Léon Blum/Voltaire.

You’ll want to reserve this trendy Franco-Japanese bistrot a few days in advance to enjoy flavorful sharing plates and natural wine in their small-but-stylish space. While a little on the pricey side (their small plates are 10€-18€ and it’s recommended to order at least 2 per person), an evening at Le Petit Keller will leave your taste buds and bellies happy :) Located in the middle of rue Keller, about 10 minutes from Place Léon Blum/Voltaire.

While bustling with tourists and Parisians alike, everything about this restaurant screams Provence, or the south of France. The popular lunch and dinner spot proposes 80+ varieties of Pastis and southern specialties such as bouillabaisse and stuffed peppers. The dining area can get cramped and loud on weekends, but the ambiance is always energetic, and the food has never disappointed! Located just past the Blvd Beaumarchais heading into the Marais, close to the Place des Vosges (20 minutes from Cité Industrielle).
