What to pack
How to Dress
Dress in layers. Sunny days could turn cool. Nights are cool as well.
Getting around
Shoes
Bring comfortable walking shoes to walk the uneven sidewalks. High-heeled shoes are not legal.
Getting around
Town Layout
Ocean St. Is the Main Street of Carmel that ends at Carmel Beach. The first street on the left side (S) from Ocean is 7th, then 8th, 9th etc. The first street on the right side (N) from Ocean is 6th, then 5th and so on. There are no addresses so N, S, E, W, are used a lot as well as counting houses from the streets intersections. There are maps all over town to help as well!
Customs and culture
Carmel Evenings
After the sun has set and you want to take an evening stroll, you will need a flashlight. There are no street lights in Carmel.
Getting around
Uber and Lift
If you want to call an Uber or Lift and do not have a street address. You can order by a business name or the nearest cross streets. (Ex. Diggy Dog or 8th & San Carlos).
Getting around
Parking
Parking on the street is monitored in two hour increments. Advice: move your vehicle every two hours. Ticketing is common and it is $40 last time I checked! The green cornered markings are for 30 mins. These are not monitored as harshly. Use at your own risk! The Sunset Center is free and has EV charging. On 8th and San Carlos.
