City/town information
A short 20 minute drive will take you to the town I call home, Amherst. We're in northwestern Nova Scotia, situated at the northeast end of the Cumberland Basin, an arm of the Bay of Fundy. It's only 22 km (14 mi) south of the warm waters of the Northumberland Strait. The town itself sits on a height of land at the eastern boundary of the Isthmus of Chignecto and Tantramar Marshes. This historic border-town is just 3 km (1.9 mi) east of New Brunswick (65 km (40 mi) southeast Moncton). The Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island at Cape Jourimain is 60 km (37 mi) away .

Before the arrival of European settlers, Parrsboro was a portage point for Mikmaq travellers along the Minas Basin and Cumberland County river systems. The native inhabitants called the region "Awokum," meaning a 'short-cut' or 'passing-over point.
Today Parrsboro is the regional service centre for southern Cumberland County, the community is also known for its port on the Minas Basin, the Ship's Company Theatre productions, and the Fundy Geological Museum.
