Murphy River Walk
Murphy River WalkFrom Murphy, at NC junction Hwy 64 & Hwy 19/74, take Hwy 64 East which heads towards Hayesville, NC. Fires Creek Road is on the left after a lone gas station (8.6 miles). Travel a few miles to Fires Creek Wilderness Road (There is a sign) on the left (road before a bridge). Follow this road till it splits, stay left (National Forest road) to park at the picnic area (National Forest sign) . The Forest road is a little rutty approaching the Fire Creek bridge. The falls is directly across the river from the picnic tables. In the summer, you must wade (wear something you don't mind getting wet) the stream to get a very nice view of the falls. There is a trail across the foot bridge to the left that goes to top of falls. There are other trails ,too. I love this area. Great for hiking or swimming; but yes the water is chilly, which is why there is so much aquatic life and a good place to cool off in the Summer! Also there is a bathroom.
