Hiking
Short hike up to incredible mountain views, including views of Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. 2 miles round trip. Rated as easy (though the way there is mostly uphill). There are often cows on top of the mountain! While this hike is popular, it's a little more off the beaten path than some of the other places.

A 4.8 mile hike to Blue Ridge Pastures with beautiful views of Hickory Nut Gorge and Bearwallow Mountain. Rated strenuous. 20 minutes from the house. While this hike is popular, it is less well-known than some of the other hikes (and it's longer), so you probably won't see as many people.

You will see three gorgeous waterfalls on this 3.3 mile loop hike in Dupont State Forest. The path is nice and wide. About an hour away. This hike is pretty popular, but there's a reason - these waterfalls are amazing and so close together! I don't want to scare you, but PLEASE don't climb the waterfalls or get too close - every year, tourists die in our area from falling off waterfalls (seriously).

There are several trails in the park (which does charge an admission fee). If you're up for a workout, skip the elevator and take the stairs! Exclamation Point and Skyline Trail is a moderate-strenuous 2.8 mile hike, or you could try Hickory Nut Falls Trail, which is rated easy and is 1.5 miles. The park is about 30 minutes away and is located in the town of Chimney Rock, which is a small/cute/touristy/kitschy kind of town. The drive runs along the Rocky Broad river which is filled with huge boulders. Chimney Rock has putt putt golf, a cute River Walk, restaurants, and shops. Check out Bubba O'Leary's General Store!
