Wonderful staff, delightful drinks and downright sinful bites. The menu can vary, but their mainstays are always reliable. It's an easy walk and enjoyable anytime at the bar or on their outdoor patio in sunny weather.

Best bagel shop in downtown, and only a short jaunt down the road. The original owner is still here every single morning (I have never not seen him there) saying 'hello' to guests and maintaining great quality bagels and schmear. The coffee ain't bad either.

Go for the happy hour, stay for the night! Super inexpensive oysters on happy hour (and, if you're lucky, a divine wine pour) but the dinner is all worthy of your dime.
p.s. explore the other great spots surrounding Jacqueline and the Clinton area.

Enoteca Nostrana, the newly constructed wine bar attached to Nostrana (designed by the one and only Cathy Whims), offers fantastic wine offerings and cocktail concoctions, along with delectable pairings (prioritize the beverages if you're on a budget). It's a great stop on the way to a show or to dinner, and comfortable enough to enjoy an entire evening indulging. The design of this small bar is eye candy for the tourist and refreshing for the local.

Shopping
Powell's is Portland famous, of course, but the garden shop on SE Hawthorne is a fun Powell's to visit. They house all genres of books, though it's smaller in size than the flagship, downtown Powell's. It's on a block chock full of other fun eateries, coffee shops and gift stores, so carve out some time to explore while you're in this 'hood.

Coffee
Best coffee in town. The 10 ounce latte is perfection, and their rotating espresso and pour over offerings make it easy to stop in every day and never get bored.
The Hawthorne location is super walkable (about a half mile) but don't miss their shop on SE Grand Ave. – it's a larger and more open space, also walkable (about a mile), and the Grand location also houses handmade furniture and toys by Bamboo Revolution for sale.
