The Snake Pit is a perfect place to grab food after a bike ride on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. It is said to be the oldest restaurant in Idaho. I don't know about that but it does have character. It is a pub-style family serving Buffalo, Prime Rib, Burgers, Ribs, and Buffalo Chips. They have a 3 plate sampler that has Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Smoked Sausage. Take the Kingston exit tword Enaville. 37.9 miles 45 min.

Sightseeing
North Idaho has an abundance of lakes, streams, mountains, and outdoor adventures. If you are a kayaker, hiker, mountain biker, or street cyclist the list of outdoor choices seems to outnumber the days available. It also is home to Silverwood, the Coeur d'Alene Resort, and many CDA downtown galleries, pubs, restaurants, and specialty shops.
This is said to be the Gem of CDA. This is my favorite quick getaway. It is amazingly close to town where you can still feel out in nature. You can walk around Tubbs Hill on the trail right on the edge of the lake and stop by rock outcroppings overlooking the lake with places to jump in. You can go down to gravel/sand beaches and just relax. There are no facilities on the trail but on each end there is. You can go to the top with a few huffs and puffs and take in the vista overlooking the city or lake. You can drop back to the trail and go across a suspension bridge. It is a magical place, a must-see.
It is accessed in the parking area across from the Bakery By The Lake (imagine that). Head to the CDA Resort and go just east and you will come to McEuen Park and the CDA boat launch. Find a spot to park and go discover. You can also park in the CDA Public Library parking lot just off of E. Front Ave and start at the other end of the trail.

The Hiawatha Trail uses an old converted train route through 10 tunnels with waterfalls inside and outside. It has 7 trestles I call 7-second trestles. It takes 7 seconds for a rock to hit bottom....(ok about 7 sec).
It is an easy but magnificent ride gradually downhill. It has to be gradual for trains to go up, right? The good news is there are shuttles to take you back to the top. Headlamps required.

Water Sports
Alberton Gorge is the best whitewater and float around and is only a short 1.5-hour drive from CDA toward Montana.
In early July it can be class 4 and 5 which can flip a raft yet in places and then float peacefully until the next drop. It is considered a generally safe river because of the float and drop layout. It is easy to pick up people that have fallen out with little obstacles. Yet every year unguided unprepared paddlers have fatalities. In late August it is tamed to a peaceful float trip admiring the water, peaceful fresh air, and amazing at rock canyons. I have personally guided over 300 trips from 6 to 86 with no casualties other than horseplay in the raft. It is a wonderful family memory. Use a guide.
