Food scene

You are lucky to be staying in walking distance of the best and largest eatery on the mountain! Stacy, the owner, is simply lovely! They host family nights, sports events and occasional live bands with a warm smile and welcome. The beer selection is good and the food is freshly cooked. Check for hours as they may vary. Worth a visit to meet the locals!

The hike to the Waterfall

The most asked question is "How do I get to the waterfall?" There is a beautiful 20 ft or so waterfall about a 20 min hike from the cabin. Walk down the stairs towards the river, turning left and follow the river along the bank through the forest. There is no established pathway (a sense of adventure helps!) but if you follow the river along until the fork at the top and walk right, you will stumble across the top of the waterfall which falls into a cool swimming hole. In the summer, bring water shoes if you are feeling adventurous, and walk up through the river until you reach the waterfall. It's a fun, cool way to explore with many sights and swimming opportunities on the way. Please be mindful of the sun creams you use as the Salamanders, of which there are plenty, and fish are highly sensitive to chemicals.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Take care walking down to River

The path down and along the river is steep and uneven. Please take care with young children and yourselves. Young kids should not be left unsupervised.
What to pack

Bring water shoes, swim wear and chemical free sun screen!

If you want to explore the river, the best way is in the river itself! Because it is rocky, water shoes are the best item to pack. Please pack chemical free sun cream as the water life is sensitive to chemicals. Sun Bum is a good brand.
Customs and culture

Don't touch the Red Salamanders!

There are many Red Salamanders in the river. They are poisonous to human touch, and human touch is poisonous to them! Both you and the Salamander will regret it! If you or your child does touch one, seek medical help immediately, wash hands with soap (not in the river).

Snake Season - watch out

Spring and early summer is snake season and they like to hang out near the river and in the forest. They want to encounter you as much as you do them! Pay close attention to where you are treading or sitting. Give them the chance to escape and don't torment them. They will not chase you, but don't corner them. Step back and stay out of their way and they will do the same to you.
