Sightseeing
Assateague has both a state park and a national park. It is about 17 miles away driving. You can see it from the south end of Ocean City but the inlet separates the 2 islands. It is $7 per vehicle to go into the state park and $10 per vehicle to go into the National Seashore. (Check the website to see if prices have changed.) You could go spend a day at the beach there for a different experience. They have concessions and bath houses. We love to drive through the park and always spot horses along the way. When driving slowly through the park you can witness the wild ponies from your car. If you have ever read the story "Misty of Chincoteague" these are some of the same ponies. Chincoteague is much further to the south but they are connected and part of the same island. There is a visitor center right before the bridge to Assateague Island. Once you are over the bridge you can often spot ponies hanging out in the salt marshes.
