Big Lake, as it’s known to the locals, is paralleled on its west shore by Louisiana Highway 27, and located about 17 mi south of Lake Charles. Big Lake is well known among Gulf Coast anglers as a destination for red drum and spotted sea trout as well as flounder and brown and white shrimp.

What to pack
Groceries before you arrive
Buy groceries before arriving at the house. The nearest town is Port Arthur, approximately 27 miles away. There are a few convenience stores but their selections are very limited.
What to pack
Beach needs/nice to have
Bring your own beach towels! Also, nice to have beach chairs, beach umbrella, water shoes, water floats, sand toys for the kids, sunscreen, mosquito repellent. Limited items are provided but you may want to bring your own.
Getting around
Beach Access
DO NOT walk from backyard directly to beach. The grassy dunes area is a protected area and you could be fined. Also, do not walk through the neighbor’s backyard. Please go out the front of the property, pass the corner house, and walk along the beach pathway to the water/beach.

Meaux’s Seafood at Holly Beach is a local favorite! He sells fresh crab, shrimp, bait and ice. Just drive down to Holly Beach and you will see the signs.

Paper plates, napkins and plasticware are not provided. A limited supply of toilet paper & paper towels are provided but you may want to bring extra for larger groups
Getting around
Are there steps to the house?
Yes, the home is on stilts. There are 24 steps leading up to the front door. Please be sure everyone in your party is able to walk up and down stairs.
