Foldsjøen is the Trondheim region's second largest lake, only Jonsvatnet is larger.
There are registered fireplaces from the Stone Age, about 9,000 years ago in the area. Foldsjøen is located by county road 963, 11 kilometers from Hommelvik center. There is activity at Foldsjøen both summer and winter, and is a popular destination for swimming in summer and ice fishing in winter. Foldsjøen's largest tributaries are Sneiselva and Vikaelva. With the outlet to the river Homla, Foldsjøen is closely connected to Mostadmark ironworks which was in operation from 1653 to 1880.
