If you like luxury shopping, this is the best mall in Rio - Armani, Burberry, Coach, it's all here! Looking for a nice romantic dinner? I recommend outdoor seating and a classic caipirinha at Gula Gula for a nice date night.

Get a little exercise in and go for a long walk towards the Arpoador rock that juts out into the ocean giving you a fantastic view of the Ipanema/Leblon beach stretch. Perfect for pictures, too! Drink from a coconut while soaking up the sun then dip in the beautiful clear water - the beach is especially clear at this end of the beach. I'd love to share some of my father's childhood shenanigans on this rock!

Drinks & Nightlife
This is a great hangout for the younger crowd. This whole section of Rio is a great spot for nightlife. Don't get a table indoors, the fun part here is to drink standing on the street and walk from bar to bar having a 'chop' (pronounced show-pee) at each 'boteco.' Botecos don't have curfews, so don't be surprised if you see the sun coming up when the bar is still crowded.

Have you seen all the crazy soccer fans we have here? Whenever the Flamengo team wins they storm the streets right in front of this bar. You can also enjoy a cold beer and yummy bar food on a regular night, sans soccer fans!

Local street bar. "Braca" is a great place to go in flip-flops, straight from the beach. Great draft beer and typical Brazilian finger foods. Try the "bolinho de balhau" (codfish balls) or the "carne seca com aipim e farofa" (typical northeastern shredded beef and fried mandioca).

This is a gorgeous lake! You can walk around it for exercise or sit out at one of the bars (I recommend Palaphitas for Amazonian drinks and food). During the summer you can rent a pedal boat shaped like a goose and go out into the lake during the day or at night.

This is the beach post closest to our home - it's easy to find your way home because all the lifeguard posts have big numbers on them. If you ever need to use the restroom while at the beach you can use their public restrooms (and showers) for a few reais.
