Customs and culture
Do not ¨give papaya,¨especially with your cellphone!
Giving papaya is Colombian slang for behaving like a target victim. Cellphone snatching is the number 1 crime in Medellin. Do not walk the street with your cellphone in your hand - not to converse, not to use as a map and preferably not even to use as a camera though that may be the most difficult in our beautiful city. If you must use it, step inside a mall or grocery store and use it quickly. Many natives have been seen storing their phones down the front of their pants. Consider it.
Getting around
Yellow taxis may vary. Uber works.
The yellow taxis are supposed to turn on their meter when you start your trip. If they do not, request that they do so. Some taxi drivers either do not know the whole city or pretend not to know the whole city. This can be frustrating. In general, we prefer Uber. However, Didi Taxi (App in App Store) now accommodates ordering rides and learning the fare in advance.

We don't flush toilet paper.
That's right. We, meaning Medellin, including Apartment 2002, do not flush toilet paper (or anything other than human waste). We thank you for your cooperation.
