The Sandwich Shoppe is a local institution! They treat you like family here - it turns into an event by just walking in! The menu has hundreds of items on it too (no joke). If you can eat "the skyscraper" in one sitting by yourself you can have a picture of yourself put on the wall!

I go here to get meat. Vermont has a lot of great farms that are dedicated to raising animals the right way and this butcher shop specialized in carrying these nutritious meats. They have great sausages (ask for the frozen ones out back, its 1/2 off the list price you see in the case), bacon (try the house smoked pork belly, marinated meats, hanger steak, and organs.

Shopping
Wonderful bookstore! Mostly used, with some new.
The selection is amazing (everything from mysteries, to art/music, nature, new age/ religion, to business) and the prices are for locals (read: no crazy tourist markup like some book shops!).
You can get 3 mass markets for $5. Lots of kids books too. Tell em' Sean says hi!

There are lots of great murals in Rutland! Check out some of them here: https://downtownrutland.com/art
My favorite right now is the Batman one on Merchants Row next to the Sandwich Shoppe (Rutland has been featured in many comic books because of our annual Halloween parade! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutland_Halloween_Parade)
