A lovely drive along the ridgetop. Expect to do 30 MPH, and take a lot of stops. There are a few shops for souvenirs. Save this for a clear day, but well worth the trip. We usually go to Cosby, TN, take the Parkway north, and get off in Ashville, then take 25E home. Carver's for breakfast near Cosby, then Iron Horse Station for dinner.

Traveler advice
Useful phrases
Appalachian dialect
If you ask for assistance and the answer begins with "I don't care to. . ." they actually mean that they are willing to.
Ex., Can you direct me to the grocery store?
I don't care to tell you, take 25E west. . .
Also, the pace of the language is meandering. You might need to slow down to communicate effectively.
Getting around
Snow
It rarely snows, but if it does, we all go crazy. The schools shut down, everyone stays home, but some helpers with trucks and wenches get out to help. Expect doctor's offices and shops to be closed if the weather gets bad.
If you want to get out in spite of snow and ice, there is an alternative back drive down the hill from the cabin.
