Walthamstow Wetlands
Despite the name, Walthamstow Wetlands is actually closer to Tottenham Hale and is Europe’s largest urban wetlands (a 10 minute walk from Tottenham Hale Tube).
Comprising of several huge interlinking reservoirs with pathways all around, this 211 hectare site is home to an abundance of wildlife. It still provides much of London’s drinking water and is the city’s largest fishery – small wonder birds from all over the world flock here!
The former Engine House building dates from Victorian times and is now a visitor centre and cafe (which has an outdoor seating area which looks over the boardwalks). Admission to Walthamstow Wetlands is free and they have wildlife related events on most weekends.
