St Kilda Pier offers panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline and Port Phillip Bay, and is a popular destination for a stroll, cycling, rollerblading and fishing. The pier has nearby barbeque, picnic and playground facilities or enjoy a snack from the restored heritage kiosk.
St Kilda Pier dates back to the mid 1800’s as an early working jetty. The breakwater was later constructed for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, as a safe harbour for sailing events.
St Kilda Breakwater is now home to a colony of Little Penguins. The isolation of the breakwater is an ideal location for them to live and breed. Just before dusk you can view the colony climbing the rocks from the promenade on the St Kilda Breakwater.
There are shallow areas and often unexpected, submerged objects therefore jumping and diving off the pier and other structures is prohibited for public safety.
Dogs are permitted on the pier but must be kept on lead at all times. No dogs or other pets allowed on the breakwater.
