Old Washington was incorporated in 1786 by the Virginia legislature and named after the Revolutionary War hero George Washington, who became America’s first president in 1789.
A town known in history for its many firsts, Washington was recorded in the first Federal Census taken in 1790 as having 462 inhabitants.
It had the first postal station and first waterworks system west of the Allegheny Mountains.
Simon Kenton planted the first corn in Mason County, and last but not least, Washington was the first county seat of Mason County.
Washington’s role in the settlement of the American frontier was so significant; the National Parks Service has included its entire historic district and several individual buildings in its Historic American Buildings Survey program.
Today visitors can tour buildings throughout the village that reflect the rapid growth from pioneer log cabins to sophisticated brick homes in the Federal and Georgian townhouse styles.
Along with the museums, visitors can also enjoy the unique specialty shops.

Description
Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is named for its central feature, placid Greenbo Lake, in which visitors love to fish. Spending the afternoon on a boat on this peaceful lake is a great way to relax. A lakeside swimming pool with a spiraling waterslide, hiking and horseback riding trails in the forest around the lake, and relaxing at the beautiful fieldstone lodge at this resort are all favorite activities. The resort's lodge is named for Jesse Hilton Stuart (1906-1984) author, educator, Poet Laureate of Kentucky, and native son of Greenup County. Stuart was continually inspired by the beauty to be found in Kentucky's hills, and many visitors to this park are similarly impressed by its natural beauty.

The Ribber has really good steak, ribs and chicken. The choice of sides isn't extensive but what they offer they are really good at preparing. The atmospheres is that of a bar which it also is. Be aware that sometimes the place is packed and an hour or so wait is not unheard of but there is a reason for that, yep the food is that good!
