Food Scene
This restaurant has been around since we bought the house and it is a 5 min drive away so we have been coming for long. It gets extremely busy in the summer, you need to book,
I tend to order food in person/by phone and bring it home on the way from the beach. The most famous dishes are squid tomato rice and rabbit roll. The desserts are to die for.

Parks & Nature
Closest beach. It is beautiful all year road. In terms of parking it gets particularly busy on weekends in the summer, I tend to visit during the week or early mornings on weekends.
Paid parking is available and makes it much easier. This is right by the beach, drive until the end of the road.
The beach is part of 70km sand strip with several beaches along the way. If you walk from each beach you can find secluded empty areas.
In the last few years it became famous with the stars, Princess Caroline, Louboutin, Stark, Madonna, Monica Bellucci. Thankfully unlike Algarve the area is still very unspoiled due to building regulations. Let's hope it lasts.

Sightseeing
Beautiful city, to me it fells always feels like country village. Stunning views bordering the river and rice fields. Here you can do all the shopping you need for the summer there is a market and bigger supermarket chains. By the river you can find very nice small family owned restaurants. Up the in the castle you have stunning views and very a nice hotel where you can enjoy a drink.

The closest Marina to Montalvo. Fairly new development in the Troia peninsula opened post financial crisis so it had a touch start. It is in a beautiful location but it's still early in its lifetime it has slowly been attracting more people and getting established. The area has huge potential.
There are several shops, restaurants, hotel & casino. From here you can also take boat tours which include dolphin watching or take ferry to Setubál.

Essentials
My favourite place for groceries during the summer where I do all my shopping! It is not cheap for Portuguese standards. An unlikely gourmet grocers in this small village you can find brands than are uncommon in Portugal. They sell amazing Portuguese pies (empadas) which are invaluable to sustain us at the beach during the summer and Pão de Rala (a favourite dessert). There is a small butchers next door.
