Malta was the most bombed country during WWII when you take into account the size of the island. Hundreds of locals would have to seek shelter in such specially designed tunnels during the multiple air raids that would happen between 1940 & 1942. Right here in Mellieha you can witness the history and easily walk into one these very well preserved bomb shelters that saved thousands of lives during that time.
