Exceptionally yummy New Mexican cuisine with spicy chili! (Ask for it on the side if you don't like heat.) Their margaritas are some of the best in town. They do get super busy pretty much every day of the week, so make sure to call for a reservation, or go extremely early for lunch or dinner. (Even the bar often has a wait for seats.)

This is a cozy bookstore and coffee shop serving Iconik coffee (they are a local coffee roaster and have great espresso and pour overs). Collected Works usually has a wood fire in the fireplace in the winter, so it's a great place to stay warm and read a book or work on your computer if the weather is bad. They also have live music and talks by authors.

Upscale creative dishes in a modern environment with exceptional service. I recommend the Seared Diver Scallops, and yet everything I've had there has been incredible. Don't skip dessert, either! :) In warm weather the Rooftop Cantina is a fun and lively place to hang out and enjoy cocktails. The Cantina has an entirely different menu than the indoor restaurant and is a bit less expensive and much more casual.

A collaboration between George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones author) and local Santa Fe artists known as "Meow Wolf", this converted bowling alley is an alternate reality interactive playhouse for all ages to explore. It includes an entire house built inside the bowling alley, complete with with secret passages. If you feel inclined, you can try to figure out the mystery of the fictional family who lived in the house. Give yourself at least 2-3 hours to explore.
My advice to avoid the crowds: go in the late afternoon or early evening. Avoid visiting on the weekends, when it'll be even more packed.

(April through mid-September.) Half day and full day trips are available for all levels, and if you're a beginner, they'll make you feel very comfortable. Float trips are available for those who want a more relaxing experience. If you're an experienced rafter, rafting earlier in the season will allow you to raft the Taos Box (Class 4, depends on water flow, of course). Call them for more details and to reserve a spot.

This horseback riding company has very smooth walking horses that make for a less-bouncy and more comfortable ride (as comfortable as you can be on horseback, that is). :) Rides vary in length from 75 minutes to 3 hours. Your guide will teach you about local history and biology and you'll ride through beautiful hills up to a 360 degree view of the mountains. Jeans/pants and sneakers or boots (or other shoes with closed toes and backs) are a requirement. It's a fun way to explore the land!
