Parks & Nature

If you walk from Kent Ridge ending up at Vivo City (with the Tree top Forest trail and Henderson Waves in between), you'll see sights of our harbour which is fundamental to Singapore's success and our HDB blocks which is the raw beating heart of Singapore. Basically if you take this walk, you'll get to see exactly what makes Singapore ticks, away from the shiny buildings and glitzy facade - ideally go with a local! It gets a bit hot so try to go earlier in the morning.

It reminds me of how Singapore used to be when I was growing up. It has a lazy vibe to it, where you can just cycle and watch people fish off the pier all day.

Arts & Culture

Singapore doesn't have any natural resources, we don't even have our own water. Our hunt for water has shaped our international relations and our national conscience. I think it's important for people to understand how precarious a position Singapore is in terms of our survival.

It's just gorgeous and I'm so proud of it. Singapore has not historically been a nation that is focused on art, but in recent years it has realised that art is a fundamental part of our history and our national consciousness. The National Gallery is a symbol of how far we've come as a country. I also find the Southeast Asia permanent exhibit fascinating as it's a pictorial representation of our history, and it's fascinating to see pictorially how far we've come in such a short span of time. There is a great free guided tour of the exhibit so do plan your trip around that. Also, nip up to Smoke & Mirrors for a great view of the city.
