Food Scene

Our closest place to visit is Ponce City Market. It is about 3 blocks away. It was originally built more than 100 years ago as a Sear’s department store and warehouse. It is one of the largest brick buildings in the South East, more than 1 million sq ft. It went through many years in different usues, including as city hall, and was also abandoned for a time. A few years ago it was purchased by a company called Jamestown (who developed Chelsea Market on the Highline in NYC). They converted it into a market hall food court, upscale restaurants, retail, and offices. It is considered one of Atlanta’s hippest places and really set the tone for tons of development in our area, which is now on

This is a really chic restaurant with delicious food. Decor is ‘upscale hipster’ and the food is extraordinary, but keep in mind most southern food is highly salty and fatty, this is no exception. Highly recommend. Open for lunch and dinner.

Sightseeing

Connected to Ponce City Market (ask for directions when you are there) is the Beltline. The Beltline was originally a loop of rail lines that encircled the downtown, that became disused over time. Atlanta was orinally started as the termunius of a rail line, and became a major rail center - rail drove the economy for most of its history. With the birth of the interstate highway system, rail became less useful, and this loop of rail lines fell mostly into disuse. Sprawling suburbs were built, which remain highly unpleasant to live in (atleast to a city boy like myself). About 10 years ago a young Georgia Tech urban planning grad student named Ryan Gravel noticed that this rail line could

Parks & Nature

An enormous park deisgned by the sons of Frederick Law Olmstead (the designer of NYC’s Central Park). It is a really beautiful enchanting park. There is the large open field showcasing the Midtown skyline. There is a romantic pond with swing chairs, there are playing fields, there is a playground designed by Isamu Noguchi, there is a massive dog run, there are swimming pools. It is a really nice place to go for an evening stroll, and its pretty massive, so there are a lot of different areas to explore.
