Sosua`s history began with the influx of Jewish settlers back in 1940, after the Evian conference and the agreement between Trujillo and then U.S. president Roosevelt. The Sosua Jewish museum was established in honor of the ones who had to escape from the horrors of the war in Europe because of the German Nazis. About 600-800 Jews arrived at the island between 1940 and 1945, mostly well educated citizens that had to radically alter their lives, with the task of resettling abandoned banana plantations despite their total lack of farming skills. The Jewish Museum ( Museo Judio ) located next to the Casa Marina Hotel was inaugurated Feb. 3, 2003, in the presence of many dignitaries.

El Mundo King in Sosua on the north coast of the Dominican Republic is incredibly difficult to accurately describe, but in a nutshell it is a museum of Haitian / Caribbean art. But it’s so much weirder than that.
Upon arriving at what is a residence turned castle-museum you are automatically impressed by an out of this world facade of towers and alien writings. From there, things begin to get really interesting…

Playa Grande Beach was rated as "one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world" by Conde Nast travel magazine. Along with the soft, powder-like sand, the beach is lined with tall coconut palms and bordered on each side by rugged coral formations and cliffs. There are a number of food vendors who vie to be the first to offer you their freshly prepared seafood dishes and refreshments, served near their establishments, or brought to your table right on the beach!
Seasonally, this area enjoys big waves, making it a popular spot for surfing and body/boogie boarding. Beware of a strong current!
