53 Gertrude StJust a current favourite, so much to choose from around here.
Two out of four Saturdays a month, there's a farmers market here where you can buy fabulous VIC produce from the source. The Convent development is great anytime - good cafes and the Children's Farm.

So much more than a bakery. A huge Italian eatery just next to the Nova Cinema entrance so you can kill two birds with one stone. And just a 10 - 15 min walk away.

Drinks & Nightlife
The bartenders are magicians - often win awards. Don't bother with the menu. Just tell the bartender what you like and have they'll whip up something splendid.

Everything Else
There's something on in this fabulous old building almost every weekend now so, chances are, they'll be something of interest when you come and stay. House is 5 or 6 minutes walk from here through the lovely Carlton Gardens.

Parks & Nature
Paths to stroll down, grass to stretch out on, play park for children, and if you feel like it you can stop in at the Museum or the Royal Exhibition Building, or catch a movie at Imax.

Arts & Culture
Melbourne's oldest suburb, Fitzroy is full of historic buildings -surviving into the present as homes and restaurants, as well as the churches, town buildings and pubs still serving their original purpose.

Shopping
There is so much great shopping in Fitzroy, and most of it is really indi and original. Gertrude St has some expensive boutiques but even if you're not buying, they're worth a look. My favourites are Ess Laboratory, Signet Bureau and Dogstar.

Essentials
Just around the corner, with plenty of supplies for a short stay, particularly if you supplement from Alimentari next door and Wine Republic a few doors down. If you need a bigger shop, Coles is a couple of minutes walk away on Johnston St.
