Food Scene

"Kaffivest" our local coffeehouse: Kaffihús Vesturbæjar is in 2 min. walking distance at the corner of Melhaga and Hofsvallagata). It is a really cozy little neighborhood-coffeehouse to chill in after a swim at the pool or on the way to/from the center! The food and drinks are delicious, the staff friendly and the atmosphere warm and easy. Opened 8-23 weekdays but 9-23 on weekends.

Entertainment & Activities

Our local swimming pool: Vesturbajarlaug is a delightful and relaxing nice pool. It has indoor or outdoor locker rooms that is great in the summer. Nice steam bath, inside sauna (gendered separately), hot pots, a cold pot, a small slide and a big new hot tub, shallow pool that is great for sunbathing. It also has a powerful water massage for the feet and back. It is opened 6:30-22 during weekdays and 9-22 on weekends.

Essentials

Melabúðin grocery store (Hagamelur 29): For quality and amazing selection we recommend Melabúðin (Opened 09-20) at 3 minutes walk just near the local pool. It is a small-but-perfectly-formed neighborhood grocery store that is a star amongst Reykjavík’s food shops with a stellar selection packed into its tight aisles and a sociable NYC delicatessen feel.

Sightseeing

Basecamp Iceland is one of the companies I work with. We have a selection of daytrips near Reykjavik like the golden circle, northern lights tours, the South Coast, Eyjafjallajökull, Snæfellsnes peninsula or longer winter/summer adventures to Landmannaugar or roundtrips mostly in small groups (usually max 6 persons in comfortable jeeps).
